Different Views on Mexican Immigration

     There are many different views on the major issues of Mexican immigartion. One major issue on Mexican immigration is whether it has a positive or negative effect on the United States. Those that think this issue has a positive effect and those that think it has a negative effect have different reasons to support their beliefs.




Positive Effect on the United States

Mexican immigrants help businesses stay open

     
     Many businesses rely on mexican immigration to supply themselves with cheap labor. Although it is illegal to hire undocumented immigrants as workers, many businesses rely on these people to help them save money on employees. These businesses believe that they would not be able to survive without the cheap labor of these immigrants. If they had to pay all of their employees minimum wage, they think that they would not make enough profit to feed themselves and their families. This means that for many businesses, mexican immigration have a positive effect that helps them keep their businesses open so that they can continue to bring in income to supply for themselves and their families.

Negative Effect on the United States

The government must take control

     
     Ever since September 11, 2001, Americans have realized how easy it is for people to enter the United States without proper inspection. This has raised the sense of insecurity for Americans about the issue of immigration. According to a Chicago Council poll taken in 2002 shows that 60% of Americans believe that immigration is "a critical threat" to US interests. These Americans believe that the number of immigrants in the United States is putting them in danger. The government must supply better security to control the amount of undocumented immigrants in the united States. After an incident like September 11, how can they trust that something like that won't happen again if all of these illegal immigrants are getting into the United States.
