Changes on Mexican Immigration

UPDATE:

Currently on Mexican Immigration, Arizona has forced the local police to more strictlly enforce the immigration law. This is causing a lot of criticsm fom Mexico. In America, if you get caught as an illegal immigrant, you get deported. In Mexico, however, they will beat you and take everything you own before letting you go. These ways of dealing with illegal immigration are very different, and Mexico is constantly ragging on Arizona for enforcing their ways of dealing with this issue. But whichever way is most effective must be done to put this issue to a hault.

Solutions

Mexican Immigration is an occurring problem that is affecting America greatly. We need to stop this and there are a few solutions that will help in doing so.

Southern Barrier
1) One solution to put illegal immigration to a halt is to crack down on employers of illegal immigrants. The government needs to be more strict on its policies and they need to punish those who employ immigrants.

2) One costly solution to prevent mexican immigration is to build a barrier much like the Great Wall of China. This barrier should be placed along the southern border dividing the United States and Mexico. By doing this, we would be certain to keep out illegal immigrants coming in from the south.

Department of Defense
3) Another solution is to create a Defense Department. These people would work for the government to defend the country's borders. Anyone who tries to pass the border would be arrested and immediately deported back to their country of origin. lowering the number of undocumented Mexican immigrants in the United States.

Interview

Question 1 : What do you know about Mexican immigration?

Answer 1 : I don't know very much about Mexican immigration, but I do know that this is affecting our country and its economy. From what I know, Mexicans are migrating to the United States legally and illegally. They are being employed by businesses whether they are undocumented or documented immigrants. This is allowing businesses to hire employees without having to pay a minimum wage salary allowing them to make more profit.
Positive or Negative Effects

Question 2 : Do you think that this has a positive or negative effect on American businesses? Why?

Answer 2 :  I think that this is positively affecting the businesses that hire Mexican immigrants. I think that it has a positive effect because these businesses are able to hire employees without paying them minimum wage. This is allowing them to stay open and earn monthly profit that will help them survive during this economy.

Question 3 : Do you think that this has a positive or negative effect on the American people? Why?

Answer 3 : I think that for the American people, Mexican immigration has a negative effect on the. I believe that it has a negative effect because these immigrants are taking jobs that could go to an American that needs a job to survive during this economy. During this time, many people are unemployed, and we need those jobs that the immigrants are taking to go to these Americans that need a job. These Americans are unable to provide for their families and that is really upsetting.

Question 4 : What do you think the government can do to decrease the amount of undocumented immigrants?

Answer 4 : In order to decrease the amount of undocumented immigrants, i think that the government needs to buckle down on security. We need to control who is let into our country or something bad is going to happen. We can't wait for something to happen or it will be too late.

Different Views on Mexican Immigration

There are many different views on the major issues of Mexican immigartion. One major issue on Mexican immigration is whether it has a positive or negative effect on the United States. Those that think this issue has a positive effect and those that think it has a negative effect have different reasons to support their beliefs.

Positive Effect on the United States
Mexican immigrants help businesses stay open

Many businesses rely on mexican immigration to supply themselves with cheap labor. Although it is illegal to hire undocumented immigrants as workers, many businesses rely on these people to help them save money on employees. These businesses believe that they would not be able to survive without the cheap labor of these immigrants. If they had to pay all of their employees minimum wage, they think that they would not make enough profit to feed themselves and their families. This means that for many businesses, mexican immigration have a positive effect that helps them keep their businesses open so that they can continue to bring in income to supply for themselves and their families.

Negative Effect on the United States

The government must take control

Ever since September 11, 2001, Americans have realized how easy it is for people to enter the United States without proper inspection. This has raised the sense of insecurity for Americans about the issue of immigration. According to a Chicago Council poll taken in 2002 shows that 60% of Americans believe that immigration is "a critical threat" to US interests. These Americans believe that the number of immigrants in the United States is putting them in danger. The government must supply better security to control the amount of undocumented immigrants in the united States. After an incident like September 11, how can they trust that something like that won't happen again if all of these illegal immigrants are getting into the United States.

Mexicans Crossing the Borders

Backround:

United States and Mexico Border

Mexico is the largest source of immigration to the United States. California, Texas, Illinois, and Arizona are the four states with the most Mexican immigrants. The immigrants are beginning to move to the southeastern part of the country into the states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Troubles:

In the year 2004, there were about 5.3 million undocumented Mexican immigrants in the United States. In most of the highly populated states, one-third to one-half of the total population of foreign born are undocumented. The migrated mexicans are taking jobs such as: construction, light manufacturers, and poultry processors. These are jobs that could go to Americans that need jobs to provide for themselves and their families.

Importance:

Immigration has increased rapidly, and about 9% of the populaion born in Mexico is now living in the United States. This is increasing America's population.

Solution:

If the United States does not want the Mexican immigration numbers to increase, they could be more strict on the immigration policies. They could also have better border control to reduce the number of undcumented immigrants.
